Canon’s imageRUNNER ADVANCE 500i A4 MFP was awarded a BLI Summer ‘Pick’ for its ‘flawless reliability’ and ‘top-notch’ productivity, ease of use and the versatility of its MEAP Web platform, which enables integration with a range of Canon and third-party software solutions.

Canon’s A3 imageRUNNER ADVANCE devices won awards across colour and monochrome devices, from a range of speed bands, for their superior reliability, outstanding scan functionality, ease of use and high-quality output.

In addition to Canon’s ‘Pick’ awards, Canon’s imageRUNNER ADVANCE C5255 series also earned a BLI ‘Outstanding Achievement’ award and a five-star rating for energy efficiency thanks to its lower than average energy consumption during BLI’s environmental testing. The imageRUNNER ADVANCE C5255 series devices also demonstrated faster than average recovery times from sleep mode and a host of additional features, including job review and proof modes, to help reduce the waste of paper and consumables.

“Canon’s strategy is to build value for customers and partners by providing very tight integration between device and software to add differentiation to their second generation imageRUNNER ADVANCE portfolio” commented BLI’s Idris Shogbanmu, European technical specialist for solutions. “The 500i also supports the need for flexible and mobile working by allowing users to print from any Google Cloud Print-enabled Web and mobile app, or scan to and print from iPad, iPhone and Android mobile devices. From an administrator’s perspective it also enables the device to be centrally managed, remotely monitored or reconfigured to reduce operator downtime.”

Francis Thornhill, European & UK Marketing Manager at Canon Europe, says: “We’re delighted with the recognition we’ve received from BLI in this year’s summer awards, which is a clear illustration of Canon’s reputation for outstanding performance, reliability and versatility.

“We’re particularly pleased that BLI have recognised the imageRUNNER ADVANCE 500i and its support for flexible and mobile working practices. Our recent Office Insights report research confirmed the demand for technology to support more mobile working; more than one in three organisations are already allowing employees to connect using their mobile devices and 43% already see value in mobile printing . Mobile printing is something our customers are increasingly asking for and the imageRUNNER ADVANCE 500i, as BLI has recognised, is perfectly placed to support today’s more flexible office environments.”

Canon iW Desktop

Quick Printing Tool a Tremendous Time Saver!

“Always looking for more ways to simplify the end-user experience, Canon has taken another step forward with its iW Desktop Quick Printing Tool function,” said Sweetnam. “Super convenient, the Quick Printing Tool allows documents created in a variety of formats to be dragged and dropped into a hot folder icon on the desktop that represents the output device. Once in the hot folder, users can print, fax, convert to PDF and preview files, all without ever having to open the application.”

Canon iW Desktop – Universal login Manager - Buyer's Laboratory AwardUsers can create multiple hot folders per device, with each having its own specific print preferences. For example, a user could set up a drag-and-drop hot folder for duplex with corner stapling and another for booklets with covers. “And while some advanced features such as variable data printing (VDP) and the ability to create hot folders will end once the 45-day trial period of iW Desktop expires, all existing quick printing workflows remain active, continuing to provide users with this invaluable time-saving feature,” said Sweetnam.

The Quick Printing Tool function also provides feedback to users and administrators, including device status, job status and job completion notifications, and users can link to Canon’s Remote User Interface for more detailed feedback, including paper source, remaining paper and paper size and remaining toner.

“Canon developed the iW Desktop Quick Printing Tool to help address everyday office publishing challenges through easy drag-and-drop print and PDF publishing right from your desktop,” said Canon’s Wrighton. “We are pleased that Buyers Lab has recognized the uniqueness of this tool with this award for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Innovation.’”

Whether standalone, or as part of a fleet, the new devices feature unique capabilities for personalisation, efficient document handling, simple device management and control as well as enhanced security.

Matthew Wrighton, European Marketing Manager at Canon Europe, says: “Our customers are increasingly looking for compact imaging solutions that help busy workgroups to work more efficiently as well as address concerns around security, management efficiency and cost control. According to our recent Office Insights Report², value and cost were found to be the most important factors in the purchasing process for a third (34%) of decision makers, followed closely by reliability (20%) and output quality (18%). Our new devices offer this and more, by providing all the benefits of the imageRUNNER ADVANCE platform in a compact design.”

Document handling efficiency

Thanks to the imageRUNNER ADVANCE MEAP and MEAP Web application platforms, the new compact devices integrate with Canon’s award winning range of software to provide powerful output management and capture workflows. From simple personalisation and convenient authentication as standard to dynamic end-to-end document workflows for automation and efficiency, imageRUNNER ADVANCE offers a range of solutions to suit the business requirements of large enterprises through to small businesses.

The new imageRUNNER ADVANCE 400i and 500i also support mobile and flexible working by allowing users to print from any Google Cloud Print® enabled web and mobile app, or scan to and print from iPad, iPhone and Android mobile devices. For larger organisations or more demanding environments, the uniFLOW platform offers configurable scan workflows that leverage industry-leading OCR and compression technologies to optimise document workflows according to customer needs. uniFLOW also provides a secure platform for users to print from any device to any networked MFD.

Enhanced cost control & security

Canon’s unique Universal Login Manager (ULM) provides smaller organisations with enterprise level reporting and access control – all without the need for a server. ULM provides full visibility of usage and costs by user as well as the option to apply user-level restrictions for enhanced security and cost control. More demanding environments can access centralised and complete output management and control through Canon’s uniFLOW platform which offers advanced functions such as DLP and rule-based routing.

Efficient device management

As with the rest of the imageRUNNER ADVANCE range, these new compact models can be centrally managed, monitored and reconfigured to simplify fleet management and maximise device uptime. Remote service capabilities for toner management and ordering enable service providers to remove back-office burdens from customers, while remote upgrading and diagnosis maximise device uptime. Built-in support for industry standards such as genuine Adobe PostScript® also ensures seamless integration with existing IT environments.

Leading environmental performance

As with the award-winning A3 imageRUNNER ADVANCE range, the new devices consume less than one watt of energy during sleep mode, are Energy Star qualified, and have amongst the lowest TEC ratings in the industry.

Matthew Wrighton continues: “Canon’s new imageRUNNER ADVANCE 400i and 500i devices satisfy the growing market demand for high-quality A4 imaging solutions and extend Canon’s award-winning portfolio.
